1) Use a long, silver tray as the starting point for your arrangement.

2) Add half a block of oasis to it, you don’t want the arrangement to be too high.

3) Decorate the sides of the oasis with Green Hypericum Berries. These berries also come in glorious shades of red and orange as well!

4) Put the foliage in at three different levels for interest. Put different textures beside each other for variety.

5) Foliage such as pine leaf has a real softness to it and contrasts well with the rest of the arrangement.

An elegant, festive table arrangement!

This wonderful idea came from Carol Bone’s Christmas Floral Demonstration at Powerscourt Garden Pavilion which takes place annually in the run up to Christmas! Don’t miss Carol’s next demonstrations at Powerscourt:

Elegant, Red Table Arrangement

DSCF4839

1) Take some pretty glass jars and decorate them with red festive ribbon. The ones for sale in Powerscourt Garden Pavilion this year have already been pre-decorated.

2) Fill each jar with water.

3) Add some sticks to the arrangement. You could spray these white or gold in advance or buy them already decorated.

4) Add some red Gebera which is so festive at this time of year. If you want any red plants this year, order them well in advance from your florist as they become very scarce in the run up to Christmas.

5) Add some Hypericum berries to the arrangement. Don’t use anything too big or if might spoil the effect.

5) Place the vases along the table. Put the flowers at different heights for interest.

The arrangement will look very sweet on your table!

Christmas Tree Lantern Floral Arrangement with Carol Bone

This morning, Carol Bone showed us how to put this together this beautiful Christmas Floral Arrangement, perfect for the season ahead. Don’t miss Carol’s next floral art demonstration at Powerscourt Garden Pavilion, next week at 10.30am on Wednesday 27th November and again on the 4th of December at the same time.

Christmas Tree & Lantern Arrangement

1) Place the candle in the lantern on a posie pad covered with oasis in the centre of the arrangement. The arrangement will look beautiful when the candle is lit, so atmospheric!

2) Add some Mitsumata Sticks to the arrangement. You can get them in most florists and they come in a variety of colours. Today, Carol used white sticks.

3) Add some Christmas Tree to the arrangement. The flower market in Dublin sells these in sacks and you could easily share a sack with a friend and create several arrangements between you.

4) Add fresh flowers to the arrangement. You could try a Christmas Allium, they are very long living.

5) Make sure you top up the oasis so that it keeps the plants well hydrated.

6) Add some single Chrysanthemums to the arrangement which will make visitors to your house think of Christmas time. They are very dramatic and will add flair to your Christmas arrangement!

7) Add the flowers at different levels within the arrangement. Some brunia would work well. It’s a very popular flower at Christmas time. While expensive, it keeps forever and dries very well.

8) Add Eryngium  to the arrangement, a type of thistle. It will will look very modern! This is a very subtle and light arrangement. You can add in any colours that you wish. Reds and greens make the arrangement look brighter.

This is a very welcoming arrangement which would look lovely on a hall table with the lantern lit. So cozy!

A Simple Christmas Candle Gift by Carol Bone

There was a great sense of excitement today in Powerscourt Garden Pavilion in County Wicklow as hundreds of people turned out to see Flroal Art Guru Carol Bone for her annual Christmas Decoration Demonstrations at Powerscourt. Carol kept a packed audience enthralled for the one and a half hours she was with us and we look forward to seeing her back with us next Wednesday 27th November at 10.30am for more great gift ideas.

Here is a lovely, simple gift idea from Carol from this morning’s workshop:

1) Take a Terracota Pot, available at Powerscourt Garden Pavilion, as your starting point

2) Place a beautiful White Church Candle in the centre of the Pot

3) Put some oasis fix on the side of the pot and stick a checkered ribbon to the side of the pot. Tie a bow on one side, and press against the oasis fix against it so that it stays in place

4) Take a wooden decorative heart and use oasis fix to put the heart onto the pot next to the ribbon

5) Add moss to the pot and decorate freely
